This Eagle Book outline was used for one particular
Eagle Scout as he moved along the process. The Eagle Book is very
confusing and complicated according to the guidelines, so this section
should help with the book creation and content as well as what the
review board is looking for in the book.
Binder: Use a white 3-ring notebook and design
a cover page with the Scout's name, address, Troop information and
telephone number. Insert this page into the cover of the notebook. The
following section match the Eagle Application form.
Section 1: Eagle Scout Application - Get this
at the Scout Shop and have it either types up or neatly hand written.
Get the advancement dates from the Troop advancement committee
chairperson. Under the merit badge section, cross off all required merit
badges that have an alternative merit badge that you earned. On the
back, the Scout signs, the Scoutmaster signs and the Troop Committee
Chairman signs. Each of the sections below needs to have a tab
associated with it and a Table of Contents at the front of the notebook.
Section 2: Rank Advancement: This section
contains the green and white rank advancement cards. We used a 2x2
insert clear plastic insert sheet from Office Depot and labeled each
insert to the rank and inserted the card. No other items are needed
here.
Section 3: List of References: Please follow
the instructions in the Path to Eagle process.
Section 4: Merit Badge Advancement: This
section can be tricky so pay attention to details. We used the same
insert sheets as Section 2 above, labeled each insert with the Merit
Badge name and you are to list the Merit Badges
EXACTLY as they are listed on the Eagle Application form.
Each Merit Badge must have on TOP,
the blue card and UNDERNEATH the
white/green card facing backwards so it can bee seen from the other
side. All dates on the blue and green cards must
MATCH EXACTLY.
Section 5: Eagle Service Project Workbook: Get
the Eagle Service Project Workbook from the Scout Shop and cut out each
page. Insert each page into the same clear plastic insert pages as
Section 3 above. Start hand writing each paragraph on the workbook sheet
and then insert any extra text that does not fit in type written form on
additional sheets also in the clear plastic insert pages. Take lots of
before and after pictures so the reads can see the difference. Also
place CAPTIONS under each picture
describing what each picture is showing. Before you begin the project,
the Scout must present the project to Troop 783 parents meeting for
approval. Then the Scout meets with a representative of the organization
that is benefiting from the project and they sign the form. Once this
has been signed, the Scout will meet with a person in Redondo Beach that
reviews and approves the project. After all this has been approved and
happens, and only then, can the project begin and be worked to
completion. After the project is done, a representative of the
organization that is benefiting from the project and they sign the form
again along with the Scoutmaster.
Section 6: Statement of Ambitions and Life
Purpose, and List of Leadership Positions: The Scout will write a
paragraph about their ambitions and life purpose. They need to sign and
date the sheet. This should be at least one page long. The Scout will
also type up a list of all leadership positions they have held in Scouts
and in all other organizations, such as church and school. It is a good
idea to take pictures of all awards earned and insert them in this
section.
